Who we are and why we are here
School governors are people from the school’s community who wish to make a positive contribution to children’s education.
Governors are the largest volunteer force in the country and contribute to raising school standards through 3 key roles: setting strategic direction, ensuring accountability and monitoring and evaluating school performance. We also have responsibility for managing the school's budget, assuring the well being of all staff with particular responsibility for the Headteacher,
and we participate in the appointment of staff.
Committees
The governing body meets as a whole 5 times each year and every governor also sits on at least one sub-committee. We have 3 main sub committees, these are: Finance and Personnel, Curriculum, and Health and Safety. The frequency of meetings will vary, being monthly, half termly or termly depending on the need.
Each member of the governing body also has a specialist responsibility that they monitor and feedback on to the rest of the board. These can be curriculum areas, ie: Numeracy, ICT etc. But we also have governors with responsibility for areas such as Gifted and Talented, Special Needs, Child Protection, Discipline and more. |
